Karnali provincial government has sought the federal government’s permission to mobilise Nepal Army personnel for the prevention and control of Covid-19.

The request is followed by the events where scores Nepalis are entering the country from the southern border. The mobilised army will help the government in organised ‘rescue’ of the people coming from India and management of them, argues the provincial government.

After the coronavirus crisis, people have lost their jobs. On a daily basis, about 4,000 people are seen returning to Karnali from India through various border points.

The provincial government data says about 80,000 citizens are in India for foreign employment and 30,000 will return. This huge number of returnees has increased the probability of coronavirus infection in Nepal.
