Kathmandu, March 26

The constitutional human rights watchdog, the National Human Rights Commission, has told the government to ensure the smooth supply of daily essentials during the period of lockdown imposed in a bid to control the coronavirus spread.

In its statement issued on the third day of the weeklong lockdown, the commission on Thursday said the government should provide daily essentials to all the people including the citizens living with disabilities, children, women, disadvantaged groups, and senior citizens.

Likewise, the government should ensure the ty and health of the health workers, security personnel, and government staff, who are on duty during the crisis, and their families, says the commission.

The rights watchdog urges the public to obey the government order but says the police and concerned authorities should treat the people detained on the charge of defying the lockdown in a humane way.
