Govt to transform Nagarkot hotels into quarantine site

Kathmandu, March 25

The government is preparing to change various hotels in Nagarkot, a popular tourist destination east of Kathmandu Valley, into a quarantine site for the people who are at the risk of getting the novel coronavirus infection.

As the number of coronavirus positive cases is increasing in the country, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai held a meeting with local entrepreneurs of Nagarkot on Wednesday morning regarding the preparation. During the meeting, the hoteliers said they were ready to support the government in the time of crisis.

The government plans to send all the people from any entire neighbourhood to Nagarkot if the neighbourhood multiple cases simultaneously. There are around 2,000 rooms in around 100 hotels in Nagarkot.

Meanwhile, the government also formed a committee to suggest preparations needed to transform the hotels into the quarantine site. Bhaktapur Chief District Officer heads the committee.
