Automobile traders in the country have welcomed the government’s decision to ban the import of luxury cars that cost more than USD 50,000 (approximately Rs 6 million).
Arguing that the government now needs to save its foreign exchange reserves to fight the crisis created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cabinet on Sunday had introduced the ban until the next notice.
Responding to the decision, the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal’s president Krishna Prasad Dulal says he cannot criticise the decision in the current adverse situation. He believes that the government made the decision keeping in mind the country’s utmost interest.
On the other hand, such expensive cars cover only around 1 per cent share in the country’s auto market, hence it does not affect the traders in general, according to him.
