Police arrest ward chief on human trafficking charges

Kathmandu, January 30

Three people including a local government official were arrested in Kathmandu on the charge of human trafficking on Thursday.

The ward chief of Dakshinkali municipality-4 Puskar Khadka, Brij Gopal Shrestha and Nawal Thakur have been arrested. Among three, Thakur is from Motihari of India and Shrestha is a resident of Kathmandu metropolitan city-16.

A joint team of the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, and Metropolitan Police Range, Sanepa, made the arrest.

SSP Tek Prasad Rai of Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, says a further investigation into the case is underway. He says they have been remanded in custody for nine days.

The arrest was made after a raid in a small eatery, based on a complaint filed by a supposed victim.

Meanwhile, Khadka refused to comment on the case. Dakshinkali municipality’s Mayor Mohan Basnet says Khadka was out of contact for the past few days.
