Three shortlisted for SEBON chair

Kathmandu, December 31

The government has shortlisted three among eight applicants for the position of the chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal, the country’s stock market regulator.

A three-member panel led by National Planning Commission member Ram Kumar Phuyal has picked Bhishma Raj Dhungana, Niraj Giri and Keshav Prasad Shrestha as potential candidates for the position. Now, Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada will select one and proposed him to be appointed as the chair. The Cabinet will take the final decision.

Nabaraj Adhikari, a director at the board currently, could not make it to the shortlist. He had been claiming himself as the most likely candidate citing his close ties with the minister and the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

It has been learned that either Shrestha or Dhungana will be picked as the next chair of the regulatory body.
