Police discover ‘counterfeit ghee’ factory in Birgunj, arrest operators

Police in Birgunj city of Parsa district have discovered a factory that allegedly produced ‘counterfeit ghee’ by mixing different chemicals. Three persons have been arrested on the charge.

Acting on a tip-off, a team deployed from the District Police Office had raided the Puja Samagri Products at Brahmachok, Birgunj-15 on Monday, informs SP Somendra Singh Rathaur, the DPO chief.

Rathaur adds that the operators would attach labels of ‘Puja’, ‘Durga’ and ‘Gokul Pure’ ghee on containers of the counterfeit product.

Police arrested Anil Shrestha, Ramesh Shrestha and Ram Bilas Yadav on the charge of cheating. Yadav is an Indian national whereas two others are locals of Birgunj. They confiscated raw materials used in the production and the containers ready to send to the market.

Further investigation is underway.
