PM Oli ready to prove majority in parliament: Minister Baskota

Kathmandu, December 26

Minister for Communication Gokul Baskota says Prime Minister Oli is ready to prove his majority in parliament.

Baskota’s comments come as a ruling alliance ally withdrew support to the Oli government earlier this week. According to the Constitution, the Prime Minister has to prove his majority in parliament within 30 days if a ruling alliance member withdraws support to the government.

The Upendra-Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, which has 17 seats in the 275-seat lower house, withdrew its support to the government after Prime Minister Oli thwarted an attempt by Deputy Prime Minister Yadav to introduce a proposal to amend the constitution.

The Prime Minister is expected to sail through the floor test as the NCP has 174 seats, nine shy of a two-thirds majority required only for a constitutional amendment.
