China not satisfied with Nepal Police over ‘joint operation’

Two houses in Kathmandu which some Chinese nationals allegedly used for illegal activities in their homeland.

Kathmandu, December 30

China has expressed its dissatisfaction over a recent arrest of more than 100 Chinese nationals in Kathmandu though it initially claimed it was a joint operation of the two countries, security officials say.

The northern neighbour has claimed that the number of arrestees was too low in comparison to the information Nepal Police was provided with and the kingpins managed to run away.

A source at the Ministry of Home Affairs says China had informed the ministry that around 100 Chinese nationals were living in around 100 houses of Kathmandu to operate illegal businesses in their homeland. Police, however, had raided seven houses only.

A high official of the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu communicated the concerns with the ministry recently, the source claims.
