JICA to take its hand off Suryabinak-Dhulikhel road expansion project

Kathmandu, November 29

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has said it will not construct the Suryabinayak- Dhulikhel road.

According to an official at the Ministry of Transport and Physical Infrastructure, JICA said it will not be involved in the 16-km road expansion project as it was not happy at the manner at which the government and the ministry treated the project. He said that JICA feels it needs to do all the work.

JICA has informed the Department of Roads and other offices that it will also not be funding the project. “Ministers and secretaries of various ministers have different policies and practices when it comes to each project. That hasn’t gone down well with JICA. It has also filed various complaints regarding this,” explains a source at the transport ministry.

The ministry, however, is planning to hold talks with JICA to convince it to change its mind.
