The Free Students Union of Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Kathmandu, has sacked its joint-secretary Indra Hang Rai after rape charges were levelled against him.
Rai, who has been accused of raping a girl at his relative’s house in Makalbari, was arrested in Gokarneshwar Municipality on Tuesday.
“If the charges against him are true, action has to be taken. We will support the police in the investigation. The charges against him are grave, but if it is true, he has to be punished,” said president of the union Tapendra Bahadur Shahi.
NCPs student wing All Nepal National Free Students Union, of which Rai is a central member, is yet to comment on the charges against him. Police say that it is investigating the case further.
