Kathmandu, October 23
Police on Wednesday have arrested Lila Raj Gautam, on the charge of raping and killing a girl in Jhapa 20 years-ago. Gautam, who was arrested in the US in 2018, was brought to Kathmandu via a Turkish Airways flight.
Interpol Washington, upon request from Nepal Police, arrested Gautam on February 13, 2018.
Gautam was extradited to Nepal upon Nepal Police’s request. A US immigration judge on September 5, 2018, passed a verdict to extradite Gautam, who had been living in the United States for the past decade.
Gautam will now face a fresh trial.
