Home Ministry urges citizens to celebrate Tihar decently

The Home Ministry, issuing a notice, has requested everyone to refrain from indulging in illegal activities while celebrating the Tihar festival. In its notice, the ministry requested people to avoid playing with firecrackers and participate in late-night deusi-bhailo programmes. It has also asked people to refrain from producing vulgar songs related to deusi-bhailo. The ministry has also labelled playing cards and drinking as ill practices. Anyone who violates the ministry’s orders will be prosecuted as per the law.

Himalaya Airlines to fly to Beijing from October 27

Himalaya Airlines, from October 27, will start operating direct flights to Beijing. This will be the first time that a Nepali airlines will fly directly to Beijing.

Currently, five Chinese airlines fly directly to Kathmandu. However, none of them flies to Kathmandu from Beijing. Himalaya Airlines believes that this will also help boost the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign.

The Kathmandu to Beijing flight will be around 5 hours long. The company has not determined the number of flights per week. More details will follow after its first flight, informed Himalaya Airlines officials.

Previously, Nepal Airlines used to fly to Japan by making a stop in Shanghai.

Nepal-Bangladesh talk about air connectivity

The Nepal-Bangladesh Commerce Joint-Secretary-Level Technical Committee meeting being held in Kathmandu is discussing the possibility of a new air service agreement between Nepal and Bangladesh. Officials are proposing flights to Saidpur Domestic Airport via either Biratnagar or Bhadrapur airports. Talks are also ongoing regarding flying to other domestic destinations.

 

Fraudsters in UAE claiming to be embassy staff cheat Nepalis

Embassy of Nepal in the UAE has asked Nepalis in the UAE to stay vigilant after fraudsters claiming to be embassy staffers reportedly duped some Nepalis. This comes after the embassy found out that various people were scamming Nepalis by taking excess fees claiming to be the embassy’s staff.

The embassy, in a statement issued on Tuesday, stated that it had not appointed people as embassy’s representatives and has asked people to report such persons to the embassy.

File: The night of Laxmipuja in Kathmandu

No load-shedding during Laxmi Puja

Nepal Electricity Authority has said that there will be no load-shedding during Laxmi Puja. NEA’s Managing Director Kulman Ghising said that the NEA is making sure that there are no power cuts due to excess load on transformers. The NEA, for the past four years, has been trying to make sure that the country is lit up during Laxmi Puja. The authority has already started the maintenance of hydropower plants, transmission lines and transformers.

Two arrested in Kathmandu for possessing tiger hide

Police on Tuesday arrested two people in Kathmandu for possessing tiger hide. A team deployed by Metropolitan Police Office, Sorakhutte arrested Nawaraj Neupane and Keshav Aryal from Narshing Chowk in Kathmandu with the hide. DSP Santosh Singh Rathor said that they also seized 1.4 kg pangolin hide and scales .

Both Neupane and Aryal have been handed over to District Forest Office, Hattisar for further action, police said.
