ADB to provide Rs 195 million for expansion of Pokhara-Muglin highway

Kathmandu, October 31

The Asian Development Bank says it will offer Nepal a loan of Rs 195 million for the expansion of the Pokhara – Muglin Prithvi Highway.

The government plans to expand the highway from two-lane to four-lane at a total cost of Rs 5.9 billion.

In a statement, ADB said that it is offering the loan as the expansion of the highway was necessary for the financial development of Nepal. The project is important as the highway is part of a sub-regional corridor which will join Nepal with Bangladesh and India.

The expansion will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, 81 kilometres from Pokhara to Abukhaireni will be expanded after which the government plans to expand the remaining 8 kilometres from Abukhaireni to Muglin.

According to the ADB, the construction of the four-lane highway will be completed by 2025.
