Asian local govt, civil society leaders in Kathmandu to discuss development issues

Kathmandu, September 24

Over 80 representatives of local governments and civil society organisations from various countries of Asia have gathered in Kathmandu for a regional meeting on contemporary development issues.

The European Union Delegation to Nepal and the Policy Forum on Development is hosting the three-day Asia regional meeting of the PFD from Tuesday. The meeting will conclude on Thursday.

The delegates are scheduled to discuss various issues revolving around the Sustainable Development Goals and the EU’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Speaking at the inaugural this morning, EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronica Cordy said addressing challenges to development should be a collective responsibility of all stakeholders. She also highlighted that Nepal’s journey towards the SDGs was remarkable in some key aspects, for example as demonstrated by the number of elected women’s representatives in local authorities.

She assured that conclusions of the discussions to be held during the event would be shared among various components of the EU so that they could be addressed in development plans for the Asia region.
