Man-eater tiger taken under control in Bardiya

Kathmandu, August 26

A man-eater on the run in Bardiya National Park has been taken under control on Monday morning.

The tiger, which had killed local resident Pahadiya Tharu, 70, on Sunday morning was brought under control after officials from the national park used a dart gun to sedate the animal. Officials say that it took them a day to find the tiger who they believe is around 15 years old. The tiger was found in the same area where it had killed Tharu.

National park officials had asked for assistance from Nepal Army and Nepal Police to take control of the tiger. The tiger has been put in a cage and has been taken to Bardiya National Park’s central office. The locals of Bhirgaun have breathed a sigh of relief after the officials took control of the man-eater.

According to officials, the tiger had grown old, its teeth and claws were worn down and had lost its capacity to hunt. That was the reason it attacked ‘easy prey’ humans. The tiger will now be kept at the park’s rescue centre.
