Nepal’s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre now Green Climate Fund-accredited agency

Nepal’s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) is now an accredited agency of the Green Climate Fund, a key fund under the aegis of the UN Framework Convention of Climate Chante.

The 22nd Board Meeting of the Fund, which was established to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change, decided to approve AEPC’s application to become an accredited agency.

With the decision, AEPC has become the first Nepal-based public entity to receive accreditation from the global entity. With the accreditation, AEPC can now develop adaptation and mitigation projects to mobilise money from the GCF by applying to the fund through the Ministry of Finance, the national designated national body of the fund. International agencies such as IUCN, FAO and UNDP were the only GCF-accredited bodies working in Nepal until now.

The government has also been trying to secure accreditation for National Trust for Nature Conservation. According to sources, GCF is likely to consider NTNC’s application during its next board meeting.
