Parliament staffers go on strike, Rana’s hearing obstructed

Kathmandu, December 30

A parliamentary hearing on complaints received against Chief Justice nominee Cholendra Shumsher Rana has been postponed mid-way after Parliament staffers resorted to protests.

The staffers have been agitated demanding that the government provide them extra pay for work they do after office hours. The hearing, which began at 2pm, was postponed until 11 am on Tuesday after it could not go on due to staffers’ agitation. The staffers have said they won’t work after office hours until their demands are met.

Parliamentary Special Hearing Committee Chairman Laxman Lal Karna said that the hearing could not continue after 4 pm as staffers refused to work.
