Police detain 25 activists for demonstrating in front of Singhadarbar

Kathmandu, July 10

Police have detained 25 human rights activists while they were staging a sit-in protest in front of the country’s main administrative complex, Singhadarbar, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have took under control noted rights activist Krishna Pahadi, Dr Gangadhar Adhikari, and Renuka Paudel among other activists at around 1:00 pm, immediately after starting the protest.

Those arrested have been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle in Singhadarbar.

Before getting detained, the activists had demonstrated with placards demanding that the government take initiatives to save the life of Dr Govinda KC, end activities of the mafia in the education sector, and scrap decisions affecting people’s right to freedom among others.

Human Rights and Peace Society, the non-government organisation which hosted the event, has also accused the government of making decisions that affect the basic rights and freedom, and  protecting violent and criminal activities prevailing in the society.
